Best Denki is now Worst Denki to me. Tried to buy a DVD Micro-hifi from 4 branches- Vivo, Great World, Taka and IMM- and received atrocious service from all 4 branches.
Great World and Vivo had the usual horrendous LOOOONG search for a salesperson with bored salespeople hiding behind refrigerators pretending not to see you or chatting on their handphones. Sales staff had very limited knowledge. But in Singapore, this is the standard type of service so I can just take a deep breath and let it go. However, must note that the 2 WORST were IMM and Taka.
IMM - Searched for a salesman for 20 minutes during off-peak hours (!!!) We finally found one and enquired about a DVD Micro-hifi to replace our old Yamaha set which had stopped working. The salesman said, "No more such type already. Obsolete." We then pointed to a few DVD Micro-Hifis on their shelves and said, "What about those?" He replied, "Oh, those are old stock. Actually, it is obsolete."(!!!)
He did not make any recomendations or show us any alternatives. He did not explain to us the differences between the models on the shelves. He stank of cigarettes.* He did not look us in the eye.
Well, I can tell you what is going to be "obsolete" soon... that is, all customers of Worst Denki!!
2) TAKA - After the by-now-familiar 20 minute safari hunt for elusive salesmen, finally found a sulky-faced one lurking by the Onkyo showroom. When we told him we were looking for someone to demonstrate the Yamahas and Onkyos to us, he said like a robot, "My colleague is not here." (!!!)
After an awkward 30 second silence, we forced him to call another salsperson over and his colleague (also stinking of cigarettes like the one at IMM) came up and half-heartedly demonstrated the Onkyos and Yamahas to us. Half the time he had no idea what he was talking about and had to read the labels and just repeat back to us what was on the labels. (!!!) These guys have really BAD product knowledge. He did not know what HDMI ports were, or DTS, how a subwoofer worked, or whether a PS3 Blu Ray disc player could handle certain types of stereo/surround options if hooked up to an amplifier.
Because we were desperate after weeks of searching, we bought a Yamaha sound bar and a DVD player. Waited for 30 MINUTES (!!!) for payment to be completed amidst BLARINGLY LOUD TVS (!!!) playing war movie shooting scenes. Luckily, I spent the 30 minutes going around turning down the volumes of all the TVs in the store or our whole family, including my 1

I was there roughly two weeks back, searching for a camera.
As the only sales personnal around was busy serving another customer. I looked around, trying to search for certain models i am interested in.
When the sales personnal was free, I enquired about a certain model (compact camera), he could not locate it, and did not even have the courtesy to even tell me that they do not carry that model. 2ndly, he could not tell me the difference between 2 models i was looking for.
I then enquired about another semi-SLR camera on display and he replied "Do you need it?" Maybe i was abit sensitive but i was not impressed with his attitude and tone. I did my own research and it was one of my options, besides, i do own 1 semi-SLR cam. Even if he was trying to be "helpful", his tone definitely did not convey that.
Whether or not a consumer buys from you, service is definitely one of my considering factor. Sadly, he did not really have the product knowledge, and the service attitude. To think Vivocity is going to be a major attraction for locals and foreigners...
Come to think of it, I should have accepted the female sales personnal's offer to help instead when he was busy..

My husband went to Best Denki (Takashimaya) and wanted to buy a stand fan valued at $36 last week. He waited at the fans section for nearly half hour and no one was available to serve him. My husband asked one staff from another section nearby for help but the staff told my husband that he was not in charge and couldn't help. My husband was a bit angry and felt very dissatisfied with the staff reply. He felt even more angry when he observed that one group of staffs from other sections were gathered together in a chitchat. All of them pretended that they never see my husband and no one volunteer to provide the sale service.
We know that sale commission for the stand fan is very low but we are still Best Denki's customers, it is very disappointing to see their staffs have such poor work attitude !
We will never want to step into or buy anything from Best Denki ever again. It was the most unpleasant buying experience we ever had.
