I always enjoy going to The cathay! It's the seat, screen and ambience that helps me enjoy watching the movie.I also like their couple seats in comparison to Golden village cos there no restriction in the middle and makes it more comfortable to sit. I always look forward to watch my movie in the Grand cathay.Cos it lives up to it's name of being grand. Inside it's so huge and the sound system also lives up to it's standard.Though they don't have the safra card discount. If you are a UOB card holder just sign and you get discounts of equivalent to the gv discounts.

Was at The Cathay yesterday to catch the show "Lust,Caution" at Hall 2 of the Cineplex. This was only my 2nd time watching a movie there.
I must say that the leg room was quite good. Wide and plenty of room to let ppl walk past effortlessly. All the seats were like couple seats, as the handrest between two seats can always be lifted up. And the sound system was quite good as well.
However, the cushions seems to have some sort of a smell which both me and my partner noticed. As I don't frequent there, I can't confirm if it was just my seats (I was sitting in the last row corner) or the same for all seats. Anyone else had such experiences to share perhaps?
And I must say that the food there seems to be slightly pricier than that of GV cinemas. And like what Pharque had mentioned in her review, the number of shows and times lots also lose out to GV.
Overall I would say that it is a good cinema but more improvements could still be done.

Big theater, good sound system, good image, above all, ENOUGH LEG ROOM for long legged freak friends of ours, Easy to find seats, lover seats available.
However as compared to GV Vivo, it loses out here and there as the theater in Vivo sounds more 'silent' than Cathay's.
Comparing GV Plaza Sing and The Cathay, GV's seats are all 'Lover's' while you have to select your lover seats in Cathay. However once secured, the lover seats in Cathay is better than GV Plaza's.
Seats are slightly more comfy than GV Plaza's.
BUT movie varieties and time slots are lesser than GV.
Overall, you may want to go there for a more different experience from the many GVs in Singapore. Just be be in THE CATHAY before.
