4 Reviews for “Crab Shack ” - Eating Places

After reading the previous reviews which gave such good ratings, Crab Shack is a place I had to try. Therefore, on saturday (08/03/2008), my girlfriend and me went down to Crab Shack for dinner. To my disappointment, they ran out of flower crabs. We ordered the Calamari, Crab Croquette and Crab Baked Rice.
Calamari ($4) 8 pcs of calamari that was good because the sotong inside the batter was not very hard to chew. It was soft and you can taste the sotong very well. The batter was alright, but it did complement the sotong.
Crab Croquette ($3.20) 6 pcs of crab croquette did not turn out to be as nice as expected. Yes, the batter on the outside was crsipy and the filling was creamy. But it clearly lacked the taste of crab which we both agreed upon. Very strong smell of lemon in the filling though.
Crab Baked Rice ($6.80) The baked rice came after more than 45 minutes of waiting. We had no idea why it took so long. The baked rice was good though. The cheese was not only on the top layer of the rice, but also amongst the rice. The rice was sweet also. The rice also came with dried shrimps inside which was really nice with it. However, it also lacked the taste of crab.
Overall, not as nice as expected. But i have yet to taste the flower crabs which they are famous for. So probably will return another time to taste it. The whole mean took more than an hour as the waiting time was rather long, not only for the baked rice.
P.S. The 'Teh-peng' was quite bad so try not to order it.

CRAB SHACK.
Value: 5 Stars
Food: 4 Stars
Ambience: 2 Stars
Service: 3 Stars
I went down yesterday (12/11/07) with my friends. First impression: o...k...
Because when i found the stall, it seemed like a closing-down-coffee-shop. Ambience, really not there. but the inside wasn't so bad.
so i decided to order what has been recommended. having 3 of us, i ordered the 8 PCS VALUE MEAL ($22) which comes with 8 flower crabs, 2 side dishes (rice and fries), and a basket of croquettes.
It wasn't a good day (monday) to head down there as they were out of croquettes (the one i was looking forward to try), out of pizza that my friend ordered and out of potato salad that i wanted.
we ordered the CRAB BAKED RICE as well. it was good. adequate cheese. very filling. the 8 pcs crab was super good. yummy yummy.
*note*: if you don't know how to DIG FOR CRAB MEAT, bring some one who knows.
because they give you the whole crab and you have to de-shell it yourself. they don't seperate it for you. luckily i knew that the gills were not edible. hahah =)
total bill was $35 for 8 PCS of crab, calamari (replacing the croquettes), fries, rice, 2 baked rice. made us all super full and bloated.
btw, drinks there are only canned drinks.
go try it. the food is really value for money. my friends were all very satisfied =)

Crab Shack is a great place to have a nice & affordable dinner. My first time there on 13 Oct 2007, I ordered 3 Pc Value Meal , which comes with three pieces of steamed flower crabs and one side - a choice of fries, corn or baked beans. The crabs were fresh and the meat was really sweet; best of all, you won't have to burn a hole in your pocket just to savour the taste of our crabby friends because the entire set only costs $7.95. There're also 8 Pc Value Meal.
Another must-try - Crab Croquette. When you bite into the crispy nuggets, expect to be assaulted by the rich taste of crabmeat and a creamy centre. It only costs $2.95!
Die-die-must-try dish is The Crab Baked Rice. Very generous servings of crabmeat and only just $6.50 - yummy and cheap.
Altogether I spent $22.00 for 4 dishes (The 3 dishes above including side order calamari). It is great for value and finger lickin good. However, The Crab Shack is located in a kopi-tiam, so don't expect too much in the way of decor and ambience.

Ya, but we cannot compare to those normal crabs. Cos paying only less than $10 for 3 crabs :) The crabs are really fresh. Female crabs are bigger and has roe in it.
