Earshot Cafe

Earshot is one of the few shops in Singapore that carries local titles for books, music and videos. Its first branch is in the Old Parliament House.

Books and music by local talents such as Kuo Pao Kun, Cyril Wong, X'Ho, **** Lee, Serenaide, T'ang Quartet, The Observatory etc. as well as films by Royston Tan and Tan Pin Pin, are treasures that cannot be easily found in other book and cd shops. In addition, works of local playwrights and authors who have published their works (different languages) on a smaller scale can also be located on the shelves of this shop. Prices are reasonable and you can even get a book at a low price of $12.

Situated at the corner of the first level, Earshot provides a lovely dining ambience. Dining takes place among the shelves of books and cds. This is where you can grab a simple bite, have a beer or tea (a tea and a beer for less than $10 in all) or a lovely dinner while seeping in the melodious music played.

On several occasions and a regular basis, gigs by local bands are carried out in the shop and entrance is absolutely free. This is one place where you can catch the local musical talents' rare perfomances.

A second Earshot was recently opened in the Esplanade Mall and it also carries similar products. However, if you are someone who enjoys a quiet and personal time, the Earshot at the Old Parliament House will be a more attractive spot with a surrounding of history that has come to a standstill.

As both shops are situated in the heart of town, they are both easily accessible locations.

All in all, Earshot is a cosy home to those who aspire to write his/her own works or to those who seeks a lovely chillout spot after a hard day's work.
