3 Reviews for “Galbiati Gourmet Deli ” - Restaurants

A classic Italian gastronomic, Galbiati gourmet deli actually started out as a takeaway place for its gourmet products. I’ve been wanting to give the place a visit ever since a friend highly recommended it, and railmall is so near to my place.
The interior of the deli was very small, with seating of at most 30. The simplistic environment of the place does makes one feels comfortable, a place where you can call your own Italian joint. The food offered are mostly simple food, with a wide array of home-made pastas, appetizer and main courses.
The Salmon asparagus linguine ($18) was based on the recommendation of the serving staff as my friend’s a great fan of the fish. A very light cream base accompanied the linguine, with the salmon stronger in taste. The asparagus seems to act as the neutralising balance between the salmon and the overall light taste of the dish. A fairly good home-made pasta.
I’ve a sneak preview of their pizzas at the counter, and was excited to hear that they’d served it fresh from the oven. The popular Hawaiian pizza ($8) was our choice for the night. Coming in squares of 6, the pizza was value for money. But, there’s no free lunch in this world, i thought that the ingredients were miserable, with one small cube of pineapple and ham. The pizza crust was very hard, and dry for my personal liking. And the tomato spread for the base was insufficient.
One of the unique characteristics of Galbiati deli was they actually encouraged takeaways. Dining in, the Lavender cheesecake ($7) is a dollar more expensive than if you opted to takeaway their desserts. The lavender flower infused a aromatic fragrant into the light cheesecake. The crust base was always a welcoming partner, to provide the crunch.
We always like to save the best for the last, to savour every bite of the Tiramisu ($7) for a lasting moment stored in our memory. Well i didn’t exactly had many tiramisu before, but Galbiati’s one is probably one of the best i’ve before. There wasn’t any deconstruction, nothing fanciful about the famous Italian dessert. Just a solid good one. The mascrapone cheese, with the the coffee-liquer infuse flavour, i was sorely tempted to order another one.
Total bill was $44 for two person. While the dinner didn’t exactly turn out to be as good as what i’ve expected, it’s easy to imagine myself back here for a simple meal. The only problem? The restaurant doesn’t allow photography, so i was taking photos secretly while they were not looking.
And i do enjoyed my rights of taking photos openly, so this may be the reason a revisit will eluded me. One thing’s for sure, i’ll definitely be back to try the other desserts, and the tiramisu of course. But the next time round, i’ll probably takeaway their desserts, and snap shots of it just directly outside their shop!
You are always welcome to visit ladyironchef for a full-up on this trip. Whatever written herein are my genuine feelings expressed in words. Food, my dear, is what they call an adventure!

Galbiati is a hidden gem in the recesses of Upper Bukit Timah Road - actually, it's not that hidden considering it's quite near the main road. I suppose that the prices are kept lower than the average Italian restaurant because of the location, and the chef is as good if not better than other restaurants in town.
For a small restaurant located in a fairly ulu place, its food is of a really high standard, and much better in terms of taste as well as value for money than some other more popular Italian restaurants I've tried.
Since we were feeling rather decadant, we decided to sample a whole assortment of what Galbiati had to offer.
Starting off with the Lobster Bisque ($8 ) which is a robust tasting soup - there's also alcohol inside and thus there's a slight bitter taste characteristic of lobster bisque.
We also had a Mushroom Pizza to start, since the Smoked Salmon Pizza which I like was out. The pizza costs about $6 (it's cheaper if you take away) and it's full of mushrooms embedded in semi-melted cheese. The crust is thin and crispy, and the tomato base isn't too salty that it overpowers the mushroom taste.
My favourite dish of the night was the Goat's Cheese Salad ($15 ). I thought at first that $15 was pretty steep especially for a salad, but then it did not dissapoint. You get 3 fair sized pieces of thick goats cheese baked and melted to perfection over crusty bread. The salad itself is full of fresh greens, peacans and laced with a generous portion of sun-dried tomatoes (which are pretty expensive in the supermarkets here). The semi-sweet meaty texture of the sun-dried tomatoes give the salad body and character, and are completely unlike the tart fresh tomatoes. To top it off, the salad is drizzled with honey, making it a delectable balance between the salty cheese and sun-dried tomatoes.
Galbiati has a daily special dish, which happened to be NZ Mussels ($21 ) the day I visited. The mussels were succulent, juicy and tender and simmered in a thick slightly salty tomato based sauce. The mussels were so tender that they slipped easily out of the shell - no struggling to get bits of mussel out of the shells at all.
My main course - Salmon Ravioli with Dill Cream Sauce ($18 ) which was also the daily special. I was agonizing over either Black Squid Ink Pasta ($18 ) but then decided that since the Squid Ink Pasta was on their regular menu, the salmon ravioli might not be available the next time. I was pleasantly suprised to find that there was also salmon pieces on top of the salmon ravioli. The dill sauce was clean tasting and went well with the salmon.
Best of all, they do serve water and they're friendly, attentive and very helpful.

I haven't really tried much of their menu - besides desserts but the food I tried that day was good. They have other meats like lamb shank but I haven't gotten the chance to try them yet.

Galbiati Gourmet Deli, located along upper bukit timah road, it's a clean and cosy deli tucked in a quiet neighbourhood. Went there today with my cousin for dinner. The whole place looks very italian, perhaps due to the fact that the owner is an italian himself, anyway when you walked inside, you will be welcome by this wide array of cold side dishes, from olives to zucchini to many more, there is also a counter selling various tempting desserts and one more counter selling beverages, also there's a pizza counter.
Well, so we ordered a hawailan pizza to share, i ordered a lamb shank pasta, hazlenut chocolate tart. First, i shall comment on the pasta, firstly the portion of the lamb shank is quite huge, and the lamb shank is very tender, yet when cut, the meat does not become so brittle, it's just right. Next, the pasta sauce is a tomato-based sauce, with tomato chunks, mushrooms, the sauce is not too thick and also not too thin, it tastes a compliment of sweet and sour, although i had i prefer it to be sour abit. The pasta is this green type of pasta, i am not sure what it is called, is this green rectangular noodles, when complimented with the pasta, there's just one word, delicious. I also tried the Carbonara which my cousin ordered, It's this cream-based sauce pasta, with roasted ham on top, the pasta sauce is fantastic, very creamy, soothing and also very sinful. The pasta goes very well with the sauce, and the portion is not too big as well, i guess because you will get sick of eating too much creamy stuffs. Next comes the pizza, the pizza's crust is thin and crispy, the ham is tender and looks fresh, while the pineapple is juicy, the only thing i would prefer is to make it more cheesy. For my dessert, i ordered a hazlenut chocolate tart and also tiramisu, the tart was just simply gorgeously sinful. The taste of the chocolate and the hazlenut with the tart is just shiok!, you will get that type of this is what life's indulgences are all about, the tiramisu is also very good, creamy, the coffee taste is there, soft and spongy,
Overall, very good food, i'm sure to make a return visit, the best part, no gst, service charge all at nett price, good service. The price is quite reasonable also, think my pasta cost 18bucks, and tart cost 5bucks, really money worth it.
