3 Reviews for “Hog’s Breath Cafe (VivoCity) ” - Restaurants

It was the 4th of July when my girlfriend and me decided to head down to Hog's Breath for my birthday lunch. We both had set lunches which comes with, soup of the day, main course and a dessert.
Soup of the day
The soup of the day was clam chowder. Tasted very flavourful and there was shreds of meat. However, my girlfriend finds it abit too salty. There was also chunks of garlic bread in the soup. Soup was served in a cup, probably so that it doesn't get cold easily.
Main course
1)18 hours slow-cooked Prime Rib The steak came with a choice of 'Natural' or 'Blackened'. 'Blackened' meaning a black pepper would be added. At least that was my interpretation when I asked the waitress what it meant. She also indicated that it would be more salty. Therefore, I chose my steak to be 'Natural' and Medium done. The steak was rather ordinary and one positive about it is that it is not too tough. Very easy to chew. Add a little salt and it tastes even better.
2)Baby Back Pork Ribs This dish turn out to be quite a disappointment. The meat was very tough. Difficult to cut, difficult to chew. Cafe Cartel's easily beat them. The sauce was only average. Both Main Courses is served with Hog Tail Fries and Fresh salad.
Dessert
1)Mississippi Mud Cake There is only 2 choices of dessert for their set lunch. The desserts that was served up was probably the most impressive ones that I had for set lunches, instead of the usual one scoop of ice cream. The Mississippi Mud Cake came with a warm brownie with chocolate sauce and 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream and a few slices of strawberries. The brownie was a little too sweet but it was soft and basically went very well with the ice cream.
2)Apple Crumble The 2nd choice was the Apple Crumble. It also came with one scoop of vanilla ice cream. Very average, nothing much to describe about it
The total bill for 2 set lunches came out to be around $48 inclusive of taxes. Considerably value for money. One thing to note is that different choices of main course will cost differently.

It was pretty late when hubby and I decide to meet after work on 24 May 2008. Yes, I work on Saturdays. :(
Anyway, I don't know why, but I was feeling a bit hungry, so hubby decide we should try out Hog's Breath Cafe.
We ordered and shared..
Buffalo Wings S$8.50 New York Grill S$25.00 Coke S$3.80 Total including GST & Service Charge SGD43.90
I like the place. The food is nice! The staffs seems rather young but they are quite helpful. We will definitely be back there again. My favourite? The fries! Yum yumm.. :)
PS: The bottle in the last photo, is actually pepper! Cute eh? :)

If you like delicious ribs or succulent generous slabs of steak, you should come try it out at the HOGS BREATH CAFE. This cafe is very much AUSSIE... When you step into this restaurant, immediate you can feel an overcoming AUSTRALIAN WILDLIFE in the air. The whole saloon theme is very well blend with the menu. A slab of your hunting prize nicely grilled in wood fire topped with roughly cut sides is simply the best adventure you can get.
Nice timber sits for everybody, compliments of a wild feast adventure. May it be a date for two, a outing for a family of 6 or an after school gathering for 20. They have cosy furnitures to accomodate them all. Nicely spaced and warm friendly staff attentive to your every need.
Now lets talk about the food.. yes the food *drool......* The portion is really good for an australian diet, but for me, a not very huge eater is a little too much. I ordered a El Grande Prime Rib all for myself. let me describe it a little. Its a Seared Prime Rib with Cheese sauce, tomato salsa and sliced jalapenos. Believe me, its a slab of prime 300g steak and it is very very juicy. Even though i ordered a medium well, I think they under cooked it a little, but its fresh and so sweet. I really don't mind the little undercook. The sides i chose was a baked potato and salad. Now if you are a side lover, then the appetizers will definitely suffice. But if you are a steak lover, then you may wanna add $8 for an extra 100g of premium cut steak. OOoooohhh.... That is wat i call HOGGING GOOD meal....
While i was enjoying my meal, i saw this challenge which i think is very interesting but definitely not for the weak hearted and the tiny stomachs like mine. Let me tell you more...
If you can finish a slice of 1KG of prime Steak in one meal, you get to eat it for free but if you can't you would have to pay. Boy.. 1 KG of steak is ALOT OF STEAK.... but if you are up to the challenge, you not only win a meal and perhaps some prizes, you so win REPUTATION... because only a small handful even dare to challenge this. For information, you can visit their website at http://www.hogsbreathcafe.com.sg
The atmosphere was nice, food is very good but i felt very bloated when i walked out of the restaurant. Its a little pricey, my meal for 2 cost about $80 with taxes. Which is about 32 plates of chicken rice. heehee! But its definitely worth a try. An wildlife adventure in the heart of Singapore. Really worth the experience. And boy.. they have a cute piggie mascot....
