Booked my friend into Hotel Intercontinental the last time the family visited and while we love rave so much about the beautiful building, excellent lounge, bar and restaurants they have and the excellent shopping location, the service was below our expectation.

We love the location as it is near to shopping malls and it is near to some landmarks which makes walking around easy and nice. Love the food street (Liang Seah Street) and Bugis Night Market in which is a great plus for the visitors staying here. The adjoining shopping mall and MRT Train station makes it convenient to travel around and the lounge serve up a great mix of cocktail and beverages coupled by a good taste in live music.

We have booked and paid for the rooms in advance.. The arrangement is as such due to administrative reasons and one of the rooms are suppose to have an extra bed which we have booked and paid for in advance, however after we checked in, the extra bed is nowhere to be found, upon calling the housekeeping, we were asked to wait. All the way until evening 8pm, while we return after dinner the extra bed was not yet been put into the room. We then called the housekeeping again and the reply was that the hotel is fully booked and they have no more extra beds. After a long tele-conversation with their manager on how we had booked and paid in advance then at 11.30pm, they attempted to deliver the extra bed in which the family staying in the room had already slept.

Though the extra bed had been delivered finally after much hassle... Our visitors are greatly dismayed and vacation disrupted and we who arranged the stay embarrassed. No rectification action was being done by the hotel, as such it is not our hotel of choice for our other guest in future though the location is simply great. I like the place, the location, the nostalgia building, deco, lounge and bar as well as the friendly staff at the door however I really cannot risk anymore embarrassment especially with overseas visitors or customers.

    Location: 5/5 Price: 3.4/5 Convenience: 5/5 Service: 2/5 Rooms: 3.5/5

Will we come back: Maybe with improvements Will we introduce our friends: No

Dated property and freezing shophouse room

The hotel was having a good deal of 2nd night being free so we had a 3d2n staycation over the Hari Raya long weekend. Check in was 2pm but was informed at 3pm that the room was not ready. I had the choice of waiting or 'upgraded' to a shophouse room which was on the 2nd floor; I picked the latter.

It was highlighted that the room was in another wing would be quite a walk, but it turned out to be about 5mins walk which was not too bad. When I entered the room, I wondered if I had really been upgraded.

'Shophouse' meant stark wooden furnishings and non-carpeted floors (I'm a carpet person), definitely not as special as I thought it would be. On closer inspection, the carpet that was in front of the TV set was littered with hair and dust, something the housekeeping had obviously missed out on. The rest of the room was just that, and to be honest, I felt the room was not deserving of 5-star rating at all, even though it is quite spacious (it had plenty of space even after adding 2 extra beds). The 'upgrade' was overhyped; perhaps the normal rooms would be even better?

For some reason the temperare of my room seemed to be stuck at a freezing level and refused to warm up even a little even though I tried to set it at the lowest fan speed and warmest temperature available. We were all absolutely freezing inside. I mentioned to the front desk on my way out and were told the technician will take a look. When I came back, I enquired and was told the technician had gone into and left the room already. I asked if then he mentioned there was anything wrong or did he rectify anything, I was given no answer because " the technician usually doesn't tell us or report to us after checking". So erm, what was the purpose of the visit then?? We decided to freeze our brains for the rest of the stay since the hotel couldnt do anything about it.

Didnt have the chance to try the breakfast, but the high tea at the lobby lounge was pricey at $40 per person but little variety and taste too. Don't go for that.

I came with high expectation because this is a 5-star property but was rather disappointed at how the 'upgrade' turned out to be and the apparent lack of going the extra mile for in-house guests, and maintaince of the property. The outside and common areas of the hotel looks good though so maybe they're just really neglecting the rooms. Will post the pictures when I get them from my friends.

I stayed in Intercontinental once. JUST ONCE

But I will remmeber it for a long, long time..... I mean, who wouldn't?

The place is sooo nicely decorated. It's full of artwork and the decor is mostly "Natural-ish" yes, you know what I mean. I like the swimming pool, too. :D

And the place it's situated... Near the one, the only.... BUGIS.

Its a great place to shop at, I bet you already know that. :) The hotel room is spacious. And there are seats near the window, for you to appreciate the wonderful view (I mean it!) OOOH.

        Sleeping there is pure Heaven.
