Ate at Secret Recipe as we had wonderful experience with the food at Secret Recipe Malaysia. We are definitely and absolutely stupid to think that if the quality of food is the same at the Singapore branch.

My chicken Cordon Bleu looked like (all 4 opinions) : Sweet potato deep fried and there's hardly any cheese in it, just a bunch of ham and chicken a bit of cheese here and there. Compared to the time at KL that I've eaten, where the cheese will flow out when we cut the chicken. Dry texture and not much taste. This dish certainly failed. My husband ordered Black Pepper Chicken chop with rice and my husband's comments were:"the sauce tasted a bit strange."

Besides that, we were told that plain water is at the cost of $0.50 and since we couldn't find anything we liked in the menu, we decided to get plain water instead. When it came, we were speechless as the so called plain water is just bottled cold distilled water. Its not even the 500ml types but the 300ml type that was just sufficient to fill a cup. The meaning behind the bottled water was that it cannot be refilled. So There~!

Since a main dish cannot really fill my husband's stomach, he decided to order the cakes. As Secret Recipe was well known for having its cake menu half unavailable, we raised our hands to ask the service crew what were available. As expected, none of the crews came over. Nor did they look around or walk around but just hover at the payment counter. That happened when we raised our hands to order our food too.

However, a read up on the reviews will show that there were many positive reviews on the cakes they served. Its too bad that the service crew made us turned off otherwise we would have ordered the cakes and my review of it won't be too bad.

National Day meant many things for me but most of all it meant my girlfriend could get the National Day celebrations discount offered by Secret Recipe which allowed all their cakes to be available for purchase at a whooping 42% discount. Her choice of indulgence? After an agonizing 1 hour of listening to the shop assistant who eventually lied to get her number, the heavy weighted Moist Chocolate Cake which weights in at an astonishing 2.1kg.@

Moist Chocolate Cake ($26 due to discount) - Being my first Secret Recipe cake, i'd say this was big. The shop assistant kindly pointed out the best way to enjoy this was by first heating it and he wasn't wrong at all. When heated, the cake is warm, with a nice layer of melting dark chocolate that would have been better if given in bigger doses but in its current form still managed to indulge the senses with its cocoa content. The thin light brownish layer you see in the middle is mocha fudge which provides a sweet and light relief from the majority of the cake's thick bitter chocolate layer. The sponge cake was also denser then usual and thus results in a more fulfilling spoonful then regular sponge cakes available elsewhere.

So is the Secret Recipe used in this cake good enough? I would say it was really quite good. I loved the melting bitter chocolate layer and the small mocha layer in the middle when i munched on its sponge cake. However, i really would have preferred it if they could have given a few more layers of chocolate of something else to mix up the taste abit as it can get overwhelmingly strong after a few bites.

Definitely worth its price when discounted but i would never pay the full price for a cake of this caliber. To me, $45 should net me something much more exotic or at least thoughtful then this offering. However, this is still a good steal at $26, too bad it comes around only once yearly. =P

Whenever I have time on my own, I like to go to Plaza Singapura. And out of 5 times, 3 of these days you'll find me at Secret Recipe having a piece of cheese cake.

From the first day I tasted their cheese cake, I feel head over heels with it! (But now I am having a fling with the White Choc Cake w/Macademias! *winks*)

First let me talk about the cheese cake... yes, it's small in size, but the size doesn't matter for this. If you can't have enough of it, order another one! This cheese cake is not too soft and not hard too. The texture is just nice for me. And the cheese taste is just right. Unlike some of the cheese cakes I had elsewhere, they tasted kinda sour. My favorite part of having Secret Recipe cheesecake is the crust below the cheese cake. It's kinda like biscuit. This cake is best eaten bit by bit. Slowly enjoying the melting of the cheese in your mouth... heavenly!

Now a little about my new fling. Their White Choc Cake w/mac nuts! I'm a white choc die-hard-fan! This is one cake that you cannot miss! My friend who doesn't like sweet stuff enjoyed this cake too! It's sponge is fluffy and the chocolate layered in between is great! This one is about 2.5 times the size of their cheese cake. So its advisable to share it with another friend.
