haha first time my review got photos (:

anw visited sushi tei for 1st time in many many years at serangoon garden (4 oct). had to wait arnd 20 min cos it was a sat night and no reservations allowed. (or my friend forgot and bluff me)

so anw i'll cut the **** and jump to the food

    1. avocado roll. buttery avocado, fried prawn and if that won't give you an aneurysm, the very health-conscious people of sushi tei throw in a few lashings of mayo. utterly decadent.

    2. beef kaminabe. everyone giggles over this gastronomic vulgarity so i wont. very warm and comforting dish, miso soup base and a lot of veggies, mushrooms. the beef wasnt too great tho.

    3. spicy miso ramen. i alw like to order this, but this version was rather a disappointment. i think seafood party instant noodle tastes better.

they have this separate "healthy" menu which i didnt look at, but looks quite promising.

but i was quite impressed with the service. we requested for iced water and less than a minute later, two glasses appeared on our table!

It was a weekday and i met up with my gf for a meal. Unsure of what to have, we proceeded down to Serangoon Garden in hope of having some nice western but the places were filled and thus, we settled for Sushi Tei instead.

The outlet was decorated simply with the conveyor belt that is all the rage with Japanese restaurants. Having had a prior bad experience with Sushi Tei at Big Splash, this was the second chance they needed to get back into my good books.

We ordered a Unagi Yanagawa and Ebi and Yasai Don to share.

The Unagi Yanagawa came in 6 rather big pieces and cost $12 which was a little steep. However, the fresh unagi and nicely done cooking which managed to retain the sweet and slightly springy taste managed to make the dish feel at least acceptable.

The Ebi and Yasai don on the other hand was value for money @ $8 since it came with 8 nicely fried prawns and plenty of fried vegetables as well. Rice is the usual japanese sticky sushi rice which tasted bland but was salvaged by the teriyaki sauce and the accompaniments.

We had a few sushi dishes as well which struck me as rather normal for the value plates of $1.60 and $1.80 plates. However, the more expensive plates served better items but were upwards of $4 to $6. So its really a personal preference for the sushi part. As for me, i'd rather return for the ala carte in future.

    Service was respectable and decent.

All in all, this is definitely better then the Big Splash branch.

Down to Serangoon Garden, not sure what to eat as there is lots of foods over there. My BF and I decided to have Japanese cuisine for dinner. Sushi Tei...

Walking into the restaurant, served by the waitress and was arrange to sit at the homegrown Japanese Kaiten (conveyor belt) chain. Infront us is the open-kitchen. The lighting was a bit dim. We feel kind of relax and began to like the place as previously we have a bad experience at another outlet (Big Splash).

We were served with hot green tea. The green tea were nice and it refillable.

Looking at the menu we order a Unagi Yanagawa & Ebi&Yasai Don.

While waiting for the food, we took some plate of sushi on the conveyor belt.

1 Grey Plate $4.00 Salmon Meat ball(5 pcs) - We took this by mistake as we though it is the Tako ball. The salmon were smash with some vegetables. On top of it there is some teriyaki sauce and some fish flakes. It not bad.

1 Pink Plate $2.80 Salmon Sushi(2 pcs) - The salmon were not bad. The rice is sweet but a bit dry to me. Overall is not bad.

2 White Plate $3.20 Tamago Sushi(2 pcs) - The egg were sweet and nice.

California Maki(2 pcs) - Inside the maki there is cucumber, crab meat, egg and pickles. Taste a bit normal.

Ebi & Yasai Don $8.00 8 Pcs of fried prawns, lots of fried vegetables with teriyaki sauce and rice. Rice is a bit plain, nice with the teriyaki sauce.

Unagi Yanagawa $12.00 6 big pcs of ungai with slice onions on the bottom with lots of sauce and egg. It goes well with the rice. Not bad..

Total Bill: $35.78 (Including Towel, 10% Service Charges & GST)
