I brought one of my friends, who loves spicy food, to one of Singapore's oldest Indonesian restaurants for some traditional homestyle food.
1) Belinjau Crackers and Peanuts ($2.00): Served as appetizers, great with the kick@ss sambal.
2) Soto Ayam, or chicken soup ($4.90): Hearty chicken broth with shredded chicken, bean sprouts (which I asked to be removed) and a fried potato croquette.
3) Sayur Lodeh ($6): A medley of cabbage, long beans, fried cubed firm beancurd simmered in spicy coconut milk. This was yummy. It wasn't very spicy (I liked that, but my spice-loving friend obviously didn't), but you can add in the sambal to spice things up
4) Tauhu Telor ($7): A tower of fried cubed beancurd coated with battered eggs and dosed with spicy sweet dark sauce. This was fresh, spicy, sweet and savoury
5) Ayam Goreng Istimewa ($10): Traditional fried chicken accented with crispy golden spice blend. We both didn't really like this, it was too dry and tough
