My mom is always declaring that life would be perfect if Chili's (in KL) were to open an outlet in nearby Johor. Then she would travel across the Causeway every weekend to eat. To which I would say, "Well thank goodness we have Friday's!".

Ok my corniness aside (corny? I'm not sure people even use that word these days), Friday's is the next best thing to Chili's. In fact, it's no. 2 on our Top 3 Favourite Restaurants List. And unlike Nando's and Chili's, Friday's is just across the Causeway, people!!

The first time we were there on Aidil's birthday, the waiters in their assorted cowboy hats / newsboy caps / berets and black vests made him stand on his chair and sing a song for the entire restaurant, using an enormous pepper grinder as a mike. They created such a ruckus! And all I had asked was for them to simply light up the candles on Aidil's cake and surprise him by delivering it to our table. After Aidil sang (in a slightly shakey paiseh voice), the waiters did a rousing cheer for the birthday boy. Sweeeetttt.

(In the bottom right corner picture, can you see the manager in his cowboy hat peeking through the glass pane? Lol.)

Needless to say, every meal at Friday's is a wonderful experience. We love going there for birthday celebrations, brunches with other fun couples and, to spend quality chow time with our friends and family. The service is good and the tex-mex fare is comparable to Chili's.

Here's a sampling of what's on the menu:

      1. Appetizers

Aidil and I are absolutely crazy for their baked chicken fajita nachos topped with melted cheese and green chillies. Served with a generous amount of sour cream, guacamole and pico de gallo, they are a fab way to start your meal.

And to get Aidil to eat his vegetables, I'd usually order the Cajun Chicken Salad with Egg and a tasty honey mustard dressing.

Another great choice for starters would be the buffalo wings with celery sticks and a very, very good blue cheese dip.

      2. Burgers and Sandwiches

Friday's burgers are just as juicy as Chili's. I would usually order the mushroom swiss or the 2 varieties of BBQ beef while others would zero in on the original Friday's cheeseburger.

      3. Steaks & Mains

Their all beef steaks and BBQ ribs are always stellar!

If you don't favour red meat, there's always seafood and pasta. The grilled dory fish is pretty good.

      4. Drinks

Friday's also has an interesting variey of non-alcoholic drinks and also offers free flow fountain drinks.

      5. Desserts

Their brownies and cheesecakes and sundaes come in very large portions so be advised. While very yummy, each cake is best shared amongst at least 3 persons.

Friday's is located at Wisma JOTIC (which is a pretty deserted building and easy to miss). We would suggest that you take a cab down from City Square which is about 100 m from the Johor Checkpoint. Wisma JOTIC is less than 10 minutes away. The fare would likely cost you RM 7. Alternatively, if you are driving, head left after exiting the Checkpoint and stay on the right lane. Turn right after the second traffic light and drive straight. You will see the Wisma, a white building on your right and I think on your left, you will see an empty field.

And RM 50 - 60 per person is enough for a satisfying meal at Friday's. It's best to call in advance and make reservations. Enjoy!

p.s. For all those who have been asking, yes, the food is halal! =)
