1 Review for “The Blue Ginger Restaurant ” - Restaurants

Scanning through their menu, we realized that they not only served Peranakan food but also catered to other diners who wanted just simple and ordinary dishes. We ordered the following :
Crispy Chicken Bites The chicken meat was crispy and golden on the outside but tender and tasty on the inside. A special chilli sauce was served for dipping. Not oily and definitely juicy as the marinated meat was bursting with flavour
Bakwan Kepeting This is a traditional dish of minced pork and crabmeat being shaped into meatballs and then put into a broth containing fine slices of bamboo shoots. The broth was very sweet and the meatballs were also soft and tender.
Ayam Buah Keluak This must-try dish was a true Peranakan item and is an acquired taste. The gravy was rich with buah keluak ( a strong-tasting nut from Indonesia ) which has a distinctive flavour. The tangy richness of the gravy together with the braised chicken meat and the stuffing in each nut was simply shiok!!
Sotong Hitam This is another dish not commonly found in other places. Fresh baby squids are cooked in its own "ink" and tamarind gravy. The squids are soft and not over-cooked. Though they looked messy and black, a bite of the meat and you will not stop eating them.
We were satisfied with our choice of dishes and this place is one where we could really taste good old home cooked authentic dishes as Nonya cooking was largely based on home recipes.

Spent about $150 for 4 persons. It is worth spending as not many places served dishes that are close to our taste
