The Joyous Vet was recommended by the vet at The Animal Clinic, as I had a mouse with a tumour. Since this is relatively rare in Singapore, the vet referred me to Dr Grace Heng who operated not once, but twice, both times my pet recovered quickly. Booking a few days in advance is a necessity, as it is always packed. Everyone on the staff here is very polite and compassionate, which is why I don't mind the extra time and cost needed to travel out to Choa Chu Kang.

Dear All, after spending a horrible 2 months trying to find a vet for my cats in singapore, i have finally found someone who genuinely loves my cats, is gentle knowledgeable and goes the extra mile to help you out.

Due to the highly distressing experiences i have had in my search, i decided to write them down here, so any other expats who are used to experienced small animal vets will not have to let their animals suffer the same.

Please bear in mind, all these visits were made just i had received my babies at 14 weeks, they were ill within 2 days with severe diarrhoea, and were not eating, so i was very scared as kitten are very susceptible to feline enteritis, and one had blood in his stool.

Firstly came mount pleasant, where they are over crowded, totally disinterested and furthermore, only interested in making money. Since my unfortunate visit to the hospital where my cats were misdiagnosed and left untreated, i have have heard horrific stories of the kennel conditions, not to mention the uncompassionate attitude of the vets towards owners who have animals staying at the hospital undergoing surgery etc.

Next came companian animal clinic. We visited this clinic twice. The first time we went they were very friendly if 2 hours late, which just happens sometimes. the vet we saw was asian, and really very nice, but he didnt know the first thing about the animals, and after waiting such a time we were fobbed off with immodium for cats and we were asked to come back tomorrow to see another vet, a new zealader who has more experience with cats. Firstly, we did not want to wait as the cats had not eaten for days, and secondly we felt angry that we had phoned up and explained our issues previously and extensively, and yet were still given a vet who cannot even diagnose a cat or give any info.

When we returned, as we felt we didnt have much of a choice and were so disillusioned, we though a caucasian vet may be able to deal better with the cats. He did manage to ascertain that enteritis was unlikely given that the cats had had 2 out of the 3 vaccintions required, but was concerned about the blood in their stool, so advised us the cats needed anitbiotics for at least 3 - 4 days. this encouraged me, even though his rough handling of the cts had made me nervous. i explained to him tht they are the most laid back and gentle cats, and i can hand feed the pills rather than come back each day for injections. the vet said fine, if you think you can, but let me just give the first one in injection. he proceeded to then break 3 needles in my cats back and have the audacity to call the cat savage! My husband and brother in law went in to talk to him as i came out very angry and without antibiotics, and as they tried to do some, some other angry customers let the same vet have it right there in the corridor, accusing him of abusing their animals.

after this horrible episode i tried several further vets, and between horror stories i met from other animal owners along the way i ruled out all the vets centrally, and was recommended to go to dr Grace at the joyous vet. Whilst the horror of taking the cats out past woodlands in a cab was daunting, it only 20 mins on the expressway and was worth every extra mile.

If you have a small animal, and you love it and want to have a no hassle vet experience where your animals will be loved and treated with kindness,

please go to dr grace's clinic, i promise it will be worth the hike!!!

if you want to chat about any of the comments ive made here or need advice on vets in sing or cats in sing, please contact me on [email protected].

      hope this helps!

Yes Dr. Grace Heng at The Joyous Vet, Choa Chu Kang is very good. She is very patient and knows exactly what she does! She did a great job on my 2nd cat's sterilisation even though my cat was in heat. The cut was very small, about 3 cm. The best is my 2nd cat was able to still run right after the surgery without any difficulties. Dr. Heng's fees were reaonable and I only had to pay $110 including the painkillers.

I asked for painkillers as I believe the poor thing would need them after the first day. Many nurses would claim that it would not be painful for the animals after the surgery. This is not true and how on earth would they know that the animals are not in pain! Think about it...I believe you also want painkillers if you have your own reproductive system removed. The same goes to the animals. They DO feel pain like us so please do your pets a favour by giving it painkillers for at least 3 days. It would not do any harm to the animals as long as you do not overdose them and it's only for 3 days.

As mentioned by one of the reviewers, the staff at the front desk was very polite and patient.

        A to The Joyous Vet!
