Was here to celebrate my 6th Anniversary with my missus to an afternoon of indulgence. We made a reservation online and advised that it was our anniversary.
Honestly, i did not expect anything special from indicating our anniversary but was greeted by a nice table mat, free sparkling wine and chocolates on top of a 20% discount off the bill. The discount is due to booking online, not the anniversary.
Into the review proper, i have to say the service we experienced was very good. Unobtrusive staff and very friendly people made the meal an enjoyable one.
The food is a mixed bag. The quality is definitely there and we enjoyed the cold cuts and seafood which were sadly not being refilled fast enough, stuff like the alaskan crab legs, lobsters and oysters specifically are being wiped out real quick as usual. The sashimi corner lacked the usual chawan mushi (steamed eggs) usually found in the corner and the fish, though fresh, was somehow less sweet.
What we did enjoy was the lobster bisque, the indian food location which was great but could have been better with butter chicken addition and the desserts. The meats section is pretty good as well with an entire wagyu leg on display which is simply huge!
We also enjoyed the clean environments and comfortable atmosphere where we stayed all the way till closing of lunch at 3pm.
In the end, an enjoyable buffet lunch which is good value for big eaters.

i went there for their weekend buffet lunch on two occassions and was pleasantly suprised at the quality choice of spread. this stylish restaurant was previously known as the coffee garden and is designed by adam tihany, a famous interior designer & architect. it's situated at the basement (lower lobby) of shangri-la hotel, tucked amidst lush greenery & the hotel pool. totally dig the ambience coz its so fresh, modern & futuristic, plus there's an adjorning bar which serves very expensive cocktails, imo (between $13-$17 per drink). there are 16 buffet stations which has its own individual theatre kitchenette which i think is totally cool.
food-wise, expect high end stuffs like baby lobsters, tiger prawns, mussels, chilled crabmeat verrine appetizers, oysters which are freshly shucked infront of you, hence the perpetually long queue at the seafood bar. then there is the smoked bbq ribs, sausages, lamb navarin, seafood bouillabaisse, lobster bisque, chicken coq au vin, beefballs in tomato sauce, truffle risotto, pizza, lobster bisque. the sushi bar has a good selection of sashimi, chawanmushi, sushi/maki and the indian/chinese section with various types of fluffy briyani, curries & dim sum.
what i love most must be the desserts, which made up of a good selection of shooter glass verrines, entremets/cheesecakes, strawberry shortcake, vanilla bean creme brulee, macarons (but i don't find them good. the whole thing's soft and is similar to bakerzin's in terms of texture). the vanilla bean ice-cream is really good, so is the blueberry ice-cream that's chock full of real blueberries, and not essence or blueberry pie filling. of coz, you may like their chocolate fountain too which is much bigger compared to that of many buffet places :p the weekend lunch is $47 per person (15% off for UOB credit card holders). not cheap but its definitely a good experience. they don't call it the "mother of all buffets" for nothing!

After hearing much fanfare about Shangri-La’s The Line buffet – formerly the old Coffee Garden – a hip eatery designed by US-based Adam Tihany, my family and I finally set foot at this chic white restaurant set against orange lighting for Daddy’s birthday dinner.
Well-known as the mother of all buffets, The Line is famous for the variety of food it dishes out. However, it is often the display of yummy, succulent cold seafood counter that captures the heart of the patrons.
From Lobsters to Oysters, Prawns to Mussels, Crabs to Sushi, Yabbies (fresh water crustacian found in Australia) to Sashimi (remember to request for Salmon Belly), almost each and every serving was fresh and of high quality.
So much so that I have an extended appetiser, that went on...and on...and on...and on...and on...And if you are counting, I gobbled down 20 frisky oysters that night, and boy, were they excellent! Besides that, they also had the grilled and carving stations where you could see the chefs grilling behind a big glass enclosure.
This is the place where the Grilled Fish and Prawns were served, as well as the very tender cuts of the Roast Beef were sliced up.
Other stations include the Asian counters such as the Indian and Chinese cuisine, where you could find yummilicious Satays that were tender and slides off the satay sticks effortlessly with a gentle pull.
While many considered the dessert station the highlight of the restaurant – with its 1 metre tall Chocolate Fountain for its fondue and many other cakes and pastries – I was personally not overwhelmed with it. The filling for the Crêpe was way too sweet/sour for consumption and the 3 desserts that I picked up were not fantastic either.
Overall, paying $65 per pax to stuff yourself silly (simply because you have the tendency to try all the varieties available) is not worth it.
But if I were to come back again, I would be sure to find a table next to the cold seafood counter, and do the extended appetiser all over again.
